Globe OFW Sim Pack

My father went to abroad last December 19, 2008. To have a constant communication we bought the Globe OFW Sim pack. It has features of no maintaining balance and less costs for texting and calling. Unfortunately, there are hidden fallbacks of this Globe product. First, it is true that text abroad is Php1 only but the text from abroad is PHP25 OMG PHP25!!!. Can you imagine it is more costly than Smart which is PHP 20 only. Another ,it was advertised that there are no maintaining balance for the sim to be countinuously activated. Ahah! there is a catch on that. If your balance falls below Php 25 and you are not aware of that and still try to text someone in the Philippines your sim card will be deactivated even if you load php 300 after. Take note that call rates are php 60 which you cannot see in the site. You have to call the customer service or search in internet blogs to know the real rates. Ahh! I forgot, another thing, the roaming needs to be registered again after 180 days. So before you purchase the Globe OFW sim inquired first all the details so that you will not be surpised will all the hiddenn features of the product.

CFA Exams: Bridging the Gap between Audit and Finance

Why do auditors take the CFA exams? Given that audit experience is not included in the required experience to be a charter holder. This maybe a question for those professionals engage in audit and later on take the CFA exams. But as for me, becoming a CFA is the first step in shifting my career to finance. My experiences in audit had given me this realization. Having been exposed to audit of financial institutions increased my interest in this field. Part of our audit procedures are walkthroughs of the treasury and risk management processes. We have to understand the risk models used by the Companies in managing its risks and determine the controls that could mitigate them. We also need to understand the valuation methods used by the investment managers for investments and various transactions done by the trading department. We also performed procedures to verify the Company’s impairment of goodwill that uses discounted cash flow model and the weighted average cost of capital (WACC). I also obtained knowledge and had fun using the Bloomberg terminal. There is a vast of information which can be obtained in there.

Another factor that drives me to take the CFA exam is my thirst for knowledge. Learning new things brings me great joy. I believe that a person should seek personal development continuously. More and more CPAs are now into taking various certification exams such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and Financial Risk Manager (FRM). One of my colleagues told me once that we should not rest our professional growth on the firm alone. We must try to seek our own professional development.

My experience in audit of hedge funds made me realized my dream job of becoming an investment banker. Deciding on how to manage the investments and associated risks is what I would like to do in the future. I also believe that there are lots of opportunities that await me after I become a Charter holder. Given a chance to take the CFA exams by the CFA Society of the Philippines has opened door for the realization of my dream. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the Society and to the people behind it. Thank you for allowing me and other aspiring candidates to have the opportunity to take the CFA exams and have a chance of a better life.
